The Sfogato Music and Art Society in Cracow, together with its co-organizers and partners, invite you to participate in the 6th Festival and Piano Competition ‘Piano e Forte’ on February 27 - March 5, 2023. The events will take place in Cracow, Wieliczka and Kąśna Dolna. The programme of the project includes: festival concerts, piano Master Course, a series of lectures and workshops ‘Piano e Forte’ Academy and the 6th ‘Piano e Forte’ Piano Competition.

The 6th Festival will start on the 27^th of February at 9.00 Piano Master Course in the Ballroom of the Villa Decius Institute of Culture in Cracow, led by Prof. Andrzej Pikul from the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Cracow. Participation in the course is free after registration at www.pianoeforte.pl/akademia2023

Yesterday, on the 26^th of February in Warsaw, at the age of 90, a musicologist, Prof. Jerzy Morawski, member of the Polish Composers' Union since 1964, in 1969-1973 - secretary, and in 1973-1975 - chairman of the Section of Musicologists of the Polish Composers' Union, passed away in Warsaw

He graduated from the Institute of Musicology at the University of Warsaw and the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. He lectured at the University of Warsaw (1968-1970), Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (1970-1974) and the Jagiellonian University in Cracow (1971-1984, 1999). He worked for almost 50 years at the Art Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1956-2005). His scientific interests focused on the theory and history of music in the Middle Ages, Classicism and early Romanticism. He collaborated with the PWM Music Encyclopedia as a scientific editor of the ‘Middle Ages’ section and the author of entries (since 1970).

He received the badges for Merit to the Opole Region (1974), for Merit for the Protection of Monuments (1979), and the Golden Cross of Merit (1985). In 2014, he was decorated with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

On the 25^th of February, 2023 at 11.00 at the Pusłowski Palace of the Jagiellonian University at Westerplatte 10 street, the General Assembly Polish Composers' Union Cracow Branch was held, during which the authorities of the Branch were elected for the next 2 years!

Marcel Chyrzyński was re-elected as the president of the Branch. The Board of the Branch, elected by the General Assembly, was constituted as follows: Jerzy Stankiewicz - vice president, Aleksandra Patalas - secretary, Maciej Jabłoński - treasurer, Agnieszka Draus and Krzysztof Kostrzewa - members of the board.

Marcel Chyrzyński was again elected director of the Cracow International Festival of Composers, which has been organized by the Cracow Branch since 1989.

Juliusz Łuciuk – Aniphonae. Apocalypsis (DUX 1905) is the eighth album released as part of the ‘Anthology of Polish a cappella music’ launched in 2018 by maestro Janusz Siadlak. The Choir of the Częstochowa Philharmonic Collegium Cantorum reaches for works of Juliusz Łuciuk for the third time. The album will go digital on the 28^th of February, 2023.

The album consists of 2 extensive works - Aniphoanae from 1984, Apocalypsis from 1985 - and the smaller Partes Variabiles from the same year.

The cycle Antiphonae to the Blessed Virgin Mary is intended for a cappella men's choir. Each of the four antiphons - Alma Redemptoris Mater (Holy Mother of the Redeemer), Ave Regina caelorum (Hail, Queen of Heaven), Regina coeli laetare (Queen of Heaven, rejoice) and Salve Regina (Hail, Queen) - drew extensively on the tradition of European religious music related to the Gregorian chant.

‘Singing Gardens’ is a series of artistic events with the participation of school choirs from the Silesian region, taking part in the nationwide project „Singing Poland”. The coordinator of the Silesian region of „Singing Poland”, Danuta Jeziorowska, co-created the concept of the project and cooperates with the Music Education Department of the City of Gardens in its organization.

The concert hall of the City of Gardens will host outstanding, competition-winning vocal ensembles from educational and cultural institutions in Silesia: the Children’s Choir of the Silesian Opera directed by Maja Białas-Drzewiecka, Youth Choir of the Silesian Opera dir. by Oskar Zgoła, the Omega Voice choir (Omega Primary School in Katowice) dir. by Alicja Kotyl, the bel Canto choir (I High School in Rybnik) dir. by Lidia Blazel-Marszolik, the Piano-Forte children’s choir and Radość children’s ensemble (Primary School in Radostowice) dir. by Katarzyna Machnik, the Parole Melodiche choir (Primary School in Suszec) dir. by Alicja Pastuszka-Koczar, the Chamber Choir of the Academy of Music in Katowice dir. By Krystyna Krzyżanowska-Łoboda. In addition to the concerts, happenings with the participation of the choirs in various unexpected places in Katowice are planned.

The project is mainly aimed at children and young people from Silesian primary and secondary schools, while the size of the concert hall makes it possible to invite all music lovers who are keen on choral singing and have time on the dates indicated and hours before/at noon (11.00/12.00). The repertoire of the performances will be very wide and varied: from charming children’s songs by Małgorzata Nowak-Guzowska and others, through arrangements of folk melodies and Silesian uprising songs, film and pop music hits, to choral masterpieces from the works of such composers as Józef Świder, Marcin Wawruk, Jan Krutul and Gordon Young. There will also be interaction with the audience and joint singing. Free admission to all concerts!
