The 21st Łódź Choir Festival "Cantio Lodziensis" will take place on November 17-18, 2018 in the Łódź House of Culture (18 Traugutta St.). The Festival has a form of competition, therefore the organizers invite amateur choirs and vocal ensembles to participate.
The aim of the Festival is to present the artistic achievements of choirs and vocal ensembles and to improve their performance level, popularize valuable Polish and foreign choral literature, as well as promote artistic achievements of the Łódź composing environment. The partner of the event is Polish Composers' Union.
A completed application form should be sent to the address of the organization office by 30 September 2018. Qualified choirs and vocal ensembles are obliged to prepare a competition program consisting of at least three selected pieces not performed by the choir during the previous Festival. The organizers of the Festival encourage to include in the repertoire a work of a contemporary composer from Łódź. Its performance will be honored by an additional award of the jury. Choirs and vocal ensembles can only apply in one category. Last year's 1st prize winners of the Festival can only perform outside the competition.
The performances will be judged by a jury composed of specialists – musicians and choirmasters. On November 17, the conductors' meeting will take place with members of the Festival jury and representatives of the Łódź composers community. The theme of the meeting will be repertoire proposals and workshop issues regarding the performance of contemporary choral music. Participants will receive prizes and awards in individual categories, as well as an award for the best performance of a contemporary composer's piece. The best choir of the Festival will be awarded the Grand Prix. As part of the festival, the organizers provide additional non-competitive concerts for the participating choirs in Łódź and in the Łódź region.
