Media patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC
On the 3rd of November, remaining in an atmosphere of reverie, the Silesian Philharmonic Choir and Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yaroslav Shemet will invite audiences to an evening of great, thought-provoking works. Eugeniusz Knapik's extremely poignant oratorio Canticum puerorum and Gabriel Fauré's famous Requiem in D minor will be performed. Philharmonic will be accompanied by recognized soloists Joanna Freszel and Mariusz Godlewski.
Canticum puerorum, Eugeniusz Knapik's oratorio for soprano, baritone and chorus and symphony orchestra, is a composition dedicated to the memory of Polish children deported to Siberia. This is the origin of the work's title itself, which is translated as "Singing Children." It consists of five movements, which take their titles from poems by Krzysztof Koehler, written especially for this oratorio. Joanna Freszel and Mariusz Godlewski, who will be heard in the solo parts, were also the first performers of Canticum puerorum in 2016.
