In 2021, Little Warsaw Autumn becomes a teenager. Eleven is an age when the child is fully immersed in humanity.  This year’s Warsaw Autumn on 17-26 September will look closely at the issues of childhood, but it will primarily – as always – invite you to play with sounds, experiment, and experience music from a purely aesthetic point of view.

In 2021, Little Warsaw Autumn will focus variously on what it stems for: the premises of the Festival’s main thread. Addressing the motif of immersing the listener in art, we shall invite our youngest audiences – but also the somewhat more aged – to a fuller sensual reception of art: listening–watching, i.e. the simultaneous perception of music and image.

The protagonists of Little Warsaw Autumn shall include Polish composers Wojciech Błażejczyk, Krzysztof Knittel, Elżbieta Sikora, Lidia Zielińska, Tadeusz Wielecki, Agata Zubel, and Wojciech Ziemowit Zych. Our young audiences will also familiarise themselves with the works of international composers such as Salvatore Sciarrino.

In terms of instruments, Little Warsaw Autumn this year is dominated by the voice, piano, flute, and percussion. Performers include notably Dorota Miśkiewicz, Joanna Freszel, the Kwadrofonik ensemble, Adam Kośmieja, and musicians of the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra: Andrzej Krzyżanowski and Karol Krasiński. Selected events and concerts will be chaired by favourite animators Anna Szawiel and Malina Sarnowska, the latter with the support of actors and animators Aneta Jucejko-Pałęcka and Wojciech Pałęcki. The 11th Little Warsaw Autumn will feature 11 premieres of works by Polish composers, including eight first performances and two first Polish performances.

All Little Warsaw Autumn events will take place live at concert halls with audience participation, and will additionally be recorded and made available on the Festival’s website.

A concert on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Primary Music School at the Rev. Prof. Józef Tischner School and Kindergarten Complex in Domosławice will take place at the Krakow Philharmonic on 6 June 2021 at 5.00 p.m.

The Primary Music School in Domosławice has been operating since 2012. It educates about 500 students from the rural areas of south-eastern Lesser Poland, offering classes in eight branches located in three counties. The school implements an original curriculum, based on thorough learning about new music and on performing compositions created especially for didactic purposes. Grzegorz Majka and Renāte Stivriņa, who consistently introduce elements of modern sound language into the repertoire, play an important role in the implementation of the School's philosophy. The Music School in Domosławice has become an important culture-forming centre in the region, cooperating with numerous institutions. In addition to the individual successes of its students, the School has been granted prestigious awards, among others, the Award of the Polish Composers' Union for merits in the field of music education (2021).

The best school students as well as string and wind ensembles, choir and symphony orchestra will take part in the anniversary concert. The rich programme will include works by Polish composers, among others Fryderyk Chopin, Henryk Wieniawski, Józef Świder, Maria Dziewulska, as well as pieces by the school teachers, Grzegorz Majka and Renāte Stivriņa.

On the occasion of Children's Day, the Castle Opera in Szczecin invites whole families to a musical for children based on the fairytale by Maria Konopnicka – "About dwarfs and Mary the Orphan". The performances with music by Janusz Stalmierski will be held on 29 and 30 May 2021 at 5.00 p.m.

A dancing and singing show, where the fairytale world will move far beyond the boundaries of the stage. A story teaching us that good deeds come back to us when we need it the most. To the Crystal Cave, the Foxhole and for a meeting with Tatra Queen the young viewers will be taken by dancing and singing dwarfs who help those who are good and noble. They will also show us that hard work and teamwork help you move mountains. Will the dwarfs manage to defeat the clever bad Fox and help Mary the Orphan? What method will they find for the lazy Scraper?
