Marek Jasiński, composer and academic teacher, b. 10th Sept. 1949 in Stargard Szczeciński; d. 15th February 2010 in Cluj-Napoca (Romania). He graduated with honours from the Musical Education Dept. of the State Higher School of Music in Poznań (now Music Academy) (1974), and in the same year he began his studies with Andrzej Koszewski at the Theory, Composition and Conducting Dept. of the Poznań Academy, which he completed in 1979. He developed his abilities at International Master Classes in Composition organised by UNESCO International Music Council in Borovec, Bulgaria (1983 and 1987) and a two-semester postgraduate teacher training study (1987).
After graduation in 1979, he began his work in the Szczecin Branch of Poznań Music Academy. In 1995, he became a faculty member at the Composition and Music Theory Dept. of Bydgoszcz Music Academy, where he lectures in composition, counterpoint and instrumentation. Since 1999 he has also held the post of dean of studies at the Composition and Music Theory Dept. of Bydgoszcz Music Academy. He obtained the professor's title in 1999. Marek Jasiński's compositions have been presented, among others, during the "Warsaw Autumn", Poznań Music Spring, Young Polish Music in Szczecin, Musica Polonica Nova in Wrocław, Gaude Mater in Częstochowa, the International Witold Lutosławski Festival in Szczecin. His compositions have been performed in most European countries, as well as Argentina, Australia, Israel, Canada and the United States.
Among his numerous awards, there have been: the 2nd prize (1981) and the 3rd prize (1984) in the Stanisław Wiechowicz Competition for Composers; 1st and 2nd prizes in the Polish Episcopate Competition (1984); 2nd prize in the Competition for Composers in Tours (France, 1987); 3rd prize in the Competition of the Silesian Composers' Rostrum (1988); 1st prize in the International Competition for Composers in Gdańsk. He has also received the Award of the West-Pomeranian Province (1989), the City of Szczecin Artistic Award (1997), the Rector of Bydgoszcz Music Academy Award, 1st Class (2000), the Marshal of the Kujawy-Pomeranian Province Award (2000).
