Jacek Sotomski,

composer. Born on 2 June 1987 in Olsztyn, he attended the Karol Szymanowski School of Music in Toruń where he studied piano and percussion instruments. He then graduated from Academy of Music in Wrocław with a degree in composition (under Agata Zubel-Moc). In 2006 he received a scholarship from the Mayor of Toruń and the Voivode of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province.

He has participated in competitions for young composers with considerable successes: he received a honourable mention at the 6th Polish National Composing Competition of the 9th Students’ Music Forum in Warsaw (2005), second prize at the 7th edition of the same competition in 2006, he was also a laureate of the 4th Carl Maria von Weber Polish National Bassoon Competition in Wrocław (2010).

His works have been performed at numerous contemporary music festivals, such as Warsaw Autumn (fringe events – 2008, 2009), Hallo Wrocław 2016! in Görlitz (2010), Musica Polonica Nova in Wrocław (2012, 2014), Musica Electronica Nova in Wrocław (2013, as part of the group sultan hagavik), and 2014 World Music Days in Wrocław.

He was a participant of Composer Collider / Klopsztanga 2012 workshop, held by ensemble musikFabrik and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. In November 2014 he qualified to the final of the Young Composers Meeting 2015 in Apeldoorn.

He composes music for the theatre (Del Amor and Papa pa ,directed by Martyna Majewska, Wesele directed by Katarzyna Raduszyńska, O lepszy świat directed by Dorota Bielska).

He is a member of sultan hagavik, a band performing live music for cassette recorders. Sultan hagavik & Friends won the first prize of the OFF competition, held as a part of the 34th Stage Songs Review (2013).
