An accordion trio founded in 1996 by Janusz Wojtarowicz – leader and author of most of the compositions. They are a phenomenon on the European and global music market. Janusz Wojtarowicz, Paweł Baranek and Marcin Gałażyn are world class accordionists. Using all the advantages of the accordion in their creations, they continually explore the new possibilities of this instrument, changing the way that it is perceived. Their concerts are musical performances that contain action and drama.
They have won many prestigious awards, including: Grand Prix at the IV Krzysztof Penderecki International Contemporary Chamber Music Competition (2000), Best Debut in the year 2000 in Poland ("Jazzi" Magazine), “Gus Viseur” in the category “Musical Discovery of the Year” in France (2005), "Honoris Gratia" in recognition of contribution to Krakow and its inhabitants (2011).
Motion Trio worked with Krzysztof Penderecki, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. Wojciech Kilar, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, Michael Nyman, Viacheslav Siemionov, and many others. The band granted permission for the use of their pieces of music in such films as: One Hour Summer (USA, 2008), Laura (Poland, 2010), Życie (Poland, 2002), as well as in many other historical and feature films all over the world. The band made various recordings for the following TV stations: Arte, ZDF, WDR, France 3, Mezzo, TVP, TVP Kultura, as well as for several radio stations.
The trio has recorded twelve albums, including "Cry" (1998), "Pictures from the Street" (2000, 2003 Reedition), "Play-Station" (2002, 2009 Reedition), "Live in Vienna Sacrum & Profanum" (2004), "Metropolis" (2007), "Michael Nyman & Motion Trio" (2009), "Chopin" Live at La Folle Journee (2010), "Brahms and Liszt and..." Live at La Folle Journee (2011), "Musssorgsky. Prokofiev. Shostakovich. Khachaturian" (2012), "Nic się nie stało" (2013) L.U.C & Motion Trio, "City of Harmony" (2013) Motion Trio & L.U.C, "Polonium" (2013)- Warner Classics, Parlophone Music Polska. Since 2004 the band records for its own record company Akordeonus Records.
The band has performed on six continents and in forty countries: Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, China, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Greece, Spain, Holland, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Canada, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Germany, Moldova, New Caledonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, Hungary and Italy.
