proMODERN

proMODERN are:

  • Łucja Szablewska – soprano
  • Ewa Puchalska – mezzo-soprano
  • Ewelina Rzezińska – mezzo-soprano
  • Andrzej Marusiak – tenor
  • Krzysztof Chalimoniuk – baritone Piotr Pieron – bass

Founded in 2012 by artists who aspire to go beyond singing solo parts in ever new spectacles and concerts and to create a vocal ensemble recognisable for its unusual sound – proMODERN stems from the love of contemporary music expression and beauty, which is close to the hearts of all those who embrace the aesthetics of the present-day audience. The ensemble was thus formed by eminent singers-soloists for the performance of most demanding works by contemporary composers.

The foundation of proMODERN made news in the music environment, and composers readily dedicated their pieces to this ensemble, on which they place high demands with regard to performance. In five years, proMODERN has premiered 28 works (including miniatures, larger unaccompanied forms, vocal-instrumental music and pieces with orchestra), 9 different song cycles, as well as creating (as a group) stage parts in operatic premieres. proMODERN repertoire includes many works of contemporary music which are not performed by any other ensemble in Poland, and which are rarely heard worldwide, such as the famous Stimmung by Karlheinz Stockhausen.

In 2015 proMODERN won two Fryderyk Awards of the Polish music industry – in the categories "Album of the Year – Choral, Oratorio and Opera" and "The Best Recording of Polish Music" – for its debut album Where are you. Pieces from Warsaw. Ivan Moody of the British magazine "Gramophone" wrote in his review about "proMODERN’s bright timbre and agility, and their ability to place chords with tremendous precision. The sound they make is in many ways actually a very English one […] but that does not mean that it lacks passion; quite the reverse!". Ensemble proMODERN has already become synonymous with the best vocal interpretations of contemporary music. It has achieved wide recognition in the music circles, won awards in international competitions, and garnered excellent reviews.
