Sound Factory Orchestra – The Avant-Garde Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Wrocław

The Avant-Garde Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Wrocław "Sound Factory Orchestra" started its activity in 2009. During the first few months, the band was preparing to take up concert activity, carrying out a series of rehearsals and workshops on contemporary interpretation and performance techniques in the field of new music.

In May 2010, the group began their concert activity. The band has already played a number of concerts in Poland and Germany, where it performed, inter alia, premieres of works written especially for these occasions. The current orchestral repertoire includes both twentieth-century classics such as Witold Lutosławski and Witold Szalonek, as well as compositions by young artists, including Mateusz Ryczek, Rafał Zalech and Katarzyna Dziewiątkowska-Mleczko.

The orchestra focuses on contemporary and twentieth-century music, exceptionally performing earlier pieces. The group collaborates with the Computer Composition Studio of the Academy of Music in Wrocław in the field of electroacoustic and computer music, as well as with The Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław in the field of interactive multimedia artworks.

The artistic director of SFO is assist. prof. Robert Kurdybacha, graduate of the conducting class of prof. Mieczysław Gawroński and the composition classes of prof. Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil.
