The Warsaw Accordion Quintet was established in 1999 on the initiative of Professor Włodzimierz Lech Puchnowski as a continuation of the tradition of the former Warsaw Accordion Quintet. The current band is composed of graduates of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
Since its inception in 1999 Warsaw Accordion Quintet has performed over one hundred concerts, participating in chamber music festivals in Poland and abroad. The ensemble was also the prize-winner of the accordion competitions. To its biggest successes belong: 1st Place in the 9th International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music in Cracow (2005), 1st Place in the Premio Citta di Castelfidardo (2001), 3rd Place in the 5th Osaka Chamber Music Competition & Festa (2005), and participation in the final of the 4th Osaka Chamber Music Competition & Festa (2002).
The quintet has already made numerous recordings for radio and television and has performed at concert halls: Izumi Hall, Lublin Philharmonic, College of Europe, Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, Warsaw University of Technology, Austrian Institute, Warsaw Music Society. Its repertoire contained the works of diverse periods and styles – from baroque to contemporary (including compositions written especially for them) as well as popular music – and quintet's artistic level arouses audience and critics interest.
The first Warsaw Accordion Quintet's album Classical was released in 2004 and received nomination to "Fryderyk" Polish Music Award in the category of the Best Album – Chamber Music. In 2007, the album by Mikołaj Majkusiak Road To The Unknown was released, with the Concerto nevrotico performed by the Warsaw Accordion Quintet.
