composer; b. 5th April 1971 in Czarnków. Having studied composition with Sławomir Kaczorowski and Krzysztof Knittel, he graduated from the Academy of Music in Łódź.
He is an award-winning composer. In 2002 he received an honourable mention at the 44th Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers; in 2005 – 3rd prize at the Silesian Rostrum of Composers and 2nd prize and an honourable mention at the 46th Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers; in 2006 – 4th prize at the 10th Kazimierz Serocki International Composition Competition, 3rd prize at the 2nd Grażyna Bacewicz International Composition Competition and 2nd prize at the Kościuszko Foundation's Composition Competition in New York; in 2008 – 2nd prize (ex aequo, 1st prize was not awarded) at the Reinl-Preis International Composition Competition in Vienna for Akwarele (Watercolours) for alto saxophone, vibraphone, harp, piano and string quartet (2007) and 2nd prize (1st was not awarded) at the Probaltica Composition Competition for Apollo i Marsjasz (Apollo and Marsyas) for oboe, harp and string quintet (2008); in 2012 - 3rd prize at the 4th Grażyna Bacewicz International Composition Competition; and in 2013 - 1st and 3rd prize at the 7th Karol Szymanowski Composition Competition, held by the Association of Authors and Composers ZAIKS.
His works have been presented at numerous festivals and concerts of contemporary music, such as "Musica Polonica Nova", "Musica Moderna", Silesian Rostrum of Composers, Świętokrzyskie Music Days, "Generacje" ("Generations"), Warsaw Music Encounters, "Pory Roku" ("Seasons") – a series of concerts held by Polish Composers' Union, and performed by the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Świętokrzyska Philharmonic Orchestra, Verdehr Trio, Kwartludium, Multicamerata, and Tonkünstler-Ensemble. His compositions have also been broadcast on Polish Radio and WRC Radio(New York).
Grzegorz Duchnowski is a member of the Polish Composers' Union, Polish Society for Contemporary Music, and Association of Authors and Composers ZAIKS.
