Falenta Adam
-
composer, performer
composer and violinist; b. December 17, 2005, Toruń. He began his violin training at the age of seven and piano at eleven. He has been composing since the age of ten, and his oeuvre comprises nearly 100 works, ranging from chamber music to symphonic and stage compositions. He graduated from the Complex of Music Schools in Toruń. Since 2024, he has been studying composition under Prof. Tomasz Opałka and violin under Prof. Agata Szymczewskiej at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
He further honed his skills during masterclasses, collaborating with distinguished violin pedagogues from Poland and abroad, including Ilya Kaler, Krzysztof Jakowicz, Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, Bartosz Bryła, Janusz Wawrowski, Marcin Baranowski, Łukasz Błaszczyk, Andrzej Gębski, Michał Grabarczyk, Ewa Kowar-Mikołajczyk, and Małgorzata Skorupa. A significant vector in the evolution of Adam Falenta's compositional technique was his active participation in international and national masterclasses led by professors Paweł Łukaszewski, Artur Zagajewski, Dariusz Przybylski, Hanna Kulenty, Helmut Zapf, Marcin Stańczyk, Dame Judith Weir, and Michał Dobrzyński.
He is a laureate of over one hundred national and international music competitions in composition, violin and piano performance, chamber music, music theory, and ear training.
He has been awarded scholarships by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Prime Minister, the "Młoda Polska" (Young Poland) program, the Artistic Scholarship of the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, the Culture Scholarship of the City of Toruń, the Santander Bank Polska Foundation Scholarship, the FCUM Rector’s Scholarship, and the John Paul II Scholarship of the Capital City of Warsaw. He is also an alumnus of the "Program Zdolni" (Gifted Program) of the Polish Children's Fund.
Adam Falenta's compositional strategy is embedded in intertextual relations with twentieth-century Polish music literature, where the oeuvre of Kazimierz Serocki serves as a pivotal point of reference. The composer's creative process becomes a space for the translation of extra-musical phenomena—centered around architecture, literature, and the visual arts—into an autonomous sound language. The dominant aspect of his artistic posture consists of investigations into the formal structure and texture-timbre properties of musical matter, subordinated to the pursuit of integrating historical compositional models with modernist and postmodernist idioms.
His works have been presented at various festivals, including "Szalone Dni Muzyki", "Nowe Fale", the "Probaltica" Festival of Music of the Baltic States, the "Nova Muzyka i Architektura" International Festival, and the Festival of Young Music. Adam Falenta's compositions have been performed by renowned orchestras and ensembles, such as Sinfonia Varsovia, the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio, the Toruń Symphony Orchestra, the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Orchestra, Cappella Gedanensis, Sinfonietta Pomerania, Kwartludium, Airis String Quartet, Multicamerata, TrombQuartet, and Sepia Ensemble, as well as highly esteemed artists within the musical community: Joanna Freszel, Piotr Lato, Maciej Zimka, and Bartłomiej Wezner.
Falenta's compositions have been showcased at renowned artistic institutions, including the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice, the Władysław Szpilman Polish Radio Studio, CKK Jordanki in Toruń, and the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Both as a performer and composer, he has collaborated with esteemed conductors, including Anna Duczmal-Mróz, Rafał Kłoczko, Agnieszka Franków-Żelazny, Mariusz Smolij, Paweł Kapuła, Adam Banaszak, and Daniel Mieczkowski.
As a violinist, he has performed as a soloist with orchestras and served as a concertmaster (e.g., for Orchestra4Young conducted by Adam Sztaba at the Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz).
