violinist, chamber musician, and educator; b. March 2, 1946, in Skarżysko-Kamienna. After graduating from the Secondary Music School in Wrocław, he studied violin under Zenon Bąkowski at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. He further mastered his skills at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under the guidance of Yehudi Menuhin and Yfrah Neaman.
He is a laureate of prestigious international violin competitions, including the Jean Sibelius International Violin Competition in Helsinki (1970), the International Violin Competition "Premio Paganini" in Genoa (1971), the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań (1972), the Carl Flesch International Violin Competition in London (1974), and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (1976). Additionally, in 1973, he won the Gold Medal at the International Festival of Laureates in Pleven, Bulgaria.
The artist enjoys success both as a soloist and a chamber musician. He has been the leader (1st violinist) of the Wilanów Quartet since its foundation in 1967. He performs in Europe, Japan, the United States, Canada, and Brazil.
He has made numerous radio, television, and studio recordings—his portfolio includes an album featuring the music of Witold Lutosławski and Karol Szymanowski. He has also collaborated with the Japanese chamber orchestra "Tokyo Solisten", with whom he recorded an album of works by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Alongside his concert career, Tadeusz Gadzina was also involved in educational work. He served as a professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where he led a violin class. He also taught masterclasses in many European countries and at the Morningside Music Bridge in Calgary, Canada (serving as a "professor of residence" since 2002).
In 2002, to mark the 35th anniversary of the Wilanów Quartet, he was awarded the "Merit for Polish Culture" Medal. He was also honored with the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis in the field of artistic education (2011), as well as the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis in the field of music as a member of the Wilanów Quartet (2019).
