composer; b. 28th March 1985 in Mikstat. In 1999-2002 he studied piano and trumpet at the Fryderyk Chopin Primary School of Music in Ostrzeszów. In 2002-06 he studied piano and took an extra course in composition with Krzysztof Komeda-Trzciński at the School of Music in Ostrów Wielkopolski. In 2011 he obtained a degree in composition under Zbigniew Bargielski and in music theory (both with honours) at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. In 2011 he enrolled for a PhD programme at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and in 2014 he received a PhD degree in composition and theory of music. Since 2011, he teaches instrumentation, practical harmony, score reading and ear training at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz.
Łukasz Godyla has won many national and international composers' compoetitions. In 2006 he won the 1st prize for Leave Us for bass (male voice), violin and piano at the National Composition Competition for works inspired by the poetry of Tadeusz Różewicz, held by the local authorities of the city of Gliwice and the Gliwice Music Theatre to mark the poet's 85th birthday; in 2007 – an honourable mention for Circulations for trombone solo at the 5th Tadeusz Ochlewski Composition Competition held by PWM Edition in Kraków; in 2008 – an honourable mention for Lignum Crucis for 8-voice mixed choir a cappella at the "Legnica Cantat" National Composition Competition and 1st prize at the Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers in Warsaw for Three Glances At Music for oboe solo; in 2010 – 1st prize for Monologue for actor and chamber ensemble at the Zygmunt Mycielski National Composition Competition in Warsaw; in 2013 – 1st prize at the contest for the music logo of the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz; in 2014 – 1st prize at the composition competition marking 40 years of the Polish Cultural Institute in Vienna for Anagram for 4 hands; and in 2017 – 3rd prize at the National Composition Competition for Intrada for the United Europe High School No. 15 in Gdańsk, organized by the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk..
He has also received many scholarships and award, including the John Paul II Scholarship (2007), Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province Award marking the World Music Day (2007), Mayor of Bydgoszcz Artistic Scholarship (2008), Marshal of the Wielkopolskie Province Scholarship (2009), Minister of Culture and National Heritage Scholarship (2010), Award of the Rector of the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz (2014), and Marshal of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship Scholarship (2019).
Łukasz Godyla's compositions were performed in Poland, Ukraine, Austria, France and Italy, at such events as the "Warsaw Autumn" International Contemporary Music Festival, the Polish Music Festival in Kraków, the Bydgoszcz Music Festival, or the World Saxon Congress in Strasbourg. They were interpreted by eminent conductors, soloists and ensembles, including Wojciech Michniewski, Jerzy Swoboda, Damian Wilma, Symphony Orchestra of the Pomeranian Philharmonic, Scontri Ensemble, Modern Sax Duo.
Selected works by Łukasz Godyla were published by the PWM Edition and the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bygdoszcz. His compositions were recorded on albums issued by the Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC and the Polish Composers' Union.
