organist and composer; b. 28th July 1984 in Konin. In 2003 he graduated from the State Secondary Music School in Konin, where he studied organ with Hanna Stypułkowska. In 2003-08 he studied composition with Marcin Błażewicz and organ with Andrzej Chorosiński at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. In the academic year 2006-2007 he was granted a Socrates/Erasmus scholarship to study in the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne – composition with York Höller, electronic composition with Hans Ulrich Humpert, instrumentation with Krzysztof Meyer and organ with Johannes Geffert. In 2008 he completed postgraduate studies (Solistenklasse / Konzertexam) in the composition class of Wolfgang Rihm at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe and obtained a doctoral degree in musical arts at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. In the 2012/13 academic year, as part of the Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie scholarship, he studied contemporary music at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main. In 2016 he obtained a postdoctoral degree in musical arts in the discipline of composition and theory of music at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

He has participated in master classes in composition (taught by Paul Edlin, Dominic Muldowney, Roderick Watkins, Philip Wilby), organ music interpretation (by Karol Gołębiowski, Edgar Krapp, Gerhard Weinberger, Gary Verkade, Wolfgang Zerer), and organ improvisation (by Tomasz Adam Nowak, Daniel Roth).

He received a scholarship of the “Young Talents” ZE PAK Foundation (2003), a Ministry of Culture scholarship (2003, 2006), a scholarship from the Leopold Kronenberg Banking Foundation (2005), the Award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2006), scholarships from Keimyung Research Foundation (2006), Socrates/Erasmus (2006), “Young Poland” (2007), and the Polish Television (as an award in the programme “Creative Valley”, 2008). He has been selected to take part in the Programme for the Promotion of 13 Composers (2007-2010), organized by the Krzysztof Penderecki European Music Centre. He has been granted the titles: Primus Inter Pares 2007 (2nd in the Mazovian Region) and Primus Inter Pares 2008.

Dariusz Przybylski is a winner of numerous organ competitions, including the 2nd prize (1st was not granted) and Marian Sawa Special Award in the 4th Competition for 20th-Century Polish Organ Music in Legnica, Grand Prix of the 6th Competition of 20th- and 21st-Century Contemporary Music Works for Young Performers in Warsaw organized by the International Society for Contemporary Music, Polish Section (2005). As a composer, he has received the following awards and distinctions: in 2002 – the 1st prize for Nisi Dominus for mezzo-soprano and female choir (2002) in the 3rd “Patri Patriae” National Competition for a Work Dedicated to Pope John Paul II; in 2003 – an honorable mention for his Partita ‘Let’s All Sing the Bugle’ for trumpet and organ (2003) in the 2nd National Competition for Composers accompanying the Organ Conversatorium in Legnica; in 2004 – the 2nd prize for Six Songs to words by Halina Poświatowska for female voice and piano (2004) in the 12th National Adam Didur Competition for Composers in Sanok and the 2nd prize (1st was not granted) for Sequenza quasi una fantasia for solo organ (2004) in the 2nd Competition for Composers in Mikołów; in 2005 – 1st prize for Orpheus and Euridice, a poem for solo piano (2005) in the International Competition for Composers of the City of Vienna, 1st prize for Construction for solo alto saxophone (2005) in the 3rd National Tadeusz Ochlewski Competition in Cracow organized by PWM Edition and 1st prize for Fünf Rilke-Lieder for counter-tenor and string quartet (2005) in the 13th National Adam Didur Competition for Composers in Sanok; in 2006 – 3rd prize for the same composition in the International Franz Josef Reinl-Stiftung Competition for Composers in Vienna, an honorable mention for Berceuse for violin and piano (2004) in the 2nd International Grażyna Bacewicz Competition for Composers in Łódź, 1st prize for ...the rest is silence... for two pianos and percussion op. 23 (2005) in the Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers, 1st prize for Fanfara Clamare for organ (2006) and 2nd prize for Entrata e Chaconne for organ (2006) in the 1st Open National Competition for Composers “Pro Organo”, 2nd prize for The Times of the Returns for piano (2006) in the International Ignacy Jan Paderewski Competition for Composers in Bydgoszcz, 1st prize for Missa brevis for mixed choir and organ (2006) in the International Competition for Composers in Mikołów; in 2008 – 2nd prize for …et desiderabunt mori… for mixed choir (2008) in the International “Musica Sacra” Competition for Composers in Częstochowa and 2nd prize for Drei Formen for solo viola (2007) in the 49th Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers.

As an organist, Dariusz Przybylski has given concerts in many Polish cities as well as abroad. New music has pride of place in his repertoire, and he has given numerous first performances of new works. He also performs as an improviser.

His compositions have been performed in, among others, the Witold Lutosławski Polish Radio Concert Studio in Warsaw, during the International Evenings of Organ and Chamber Music in Kłodzko (2004), Music Days in Mikołów (2005), the Adam Didur Festival in Sanok (2005), the “Musica Sacra” International Festival in Warsaw (2005), the Musica Polonica Nova Festival in Wrocław (2006), Musica Moderna Festival in Łódź (2006), International Days of Music by Cracow’s Composers (2006), the New Music – New Faces Festival (2006, 2007), Warsaw Music Encounters (2007, 2008), Poznań Music Spring (2008), the Festival of Music Competition Winners in Bydgoszcz (2008), Crossdrumming Festival (2008), The “Gaude Mater” International Festival of Sacred Music in Częstochowa (2008), the “Warsaw Autumn” fringe events (2006-08), as well as abroad – in Austria, Germany, Sweden, Great Britain, and Belarus.

Przybylski’s music can be found on several CDs (released by DUX, Megavox, and POLMIC), four of them devoted entirely to his work. The CD with his Bogurodzica (Mother of God, 2003) for solo organ performed by Andrzej Chorosiński on the organ of the Basilica in Licheń became a Double Platinum Disc, whereas his CD “20 Years of the Organ Conversatorium in Legnica” (DUX) was nominated for the Fryderyk Award of the Polish music industry in 2005. His scores have been published by PWM Edition and Verlag Neue Musik in Berlin.

In 2006, Przybylski took part in the international composition project “Mozart Pyramid” held in Canterbury (England) as part of the Mozart Year, as well as in the project “60 Commissions for the 60th Anniversary of the Polish Composers’ Union”. In 2009 he was invited as composer-in-residence to Mittersill (Austria) – Komponisten Forum Mittersill Kofomi, in 2010 to Bad Ischl (Austria) – International Composers' Academy, and in 2012 to Nizhny Novgorod (Russia) – Scratch-Cantatas Festival. In the 2012/13 season, Dariusz Przybylski was the composer-in-residence of the Berlin vocal group Phønix16.

In the years 2006-2008 he was a secreatary and in 2008-2012 a chairman of the Youth Circle of the Polish Composers' Union. He is a member of the Polish Society for Contemporary Music (member of the Management Board), ZAiKS (vice-chairman of the Section of Authors of Musical Works) and the Polish Composers' Union (member of the Warsaw Branch Management Board). In 2008 he was the director of the Kazimierz Serocki International Competition for Composers in Warsaw, and since 2012 he has been the director of the 20th and 21st Century Music Competition for Young Performers in Radziejowice. Since 2016, he has been the curator of the "Music of Our Times" programme, organized by the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy Association.

Since 2008, Przybylski has been teaching at his alma mater. He was a guest lecturer in New York, Hamburg, Istanbul, Rome and Moscow, and in the 2010/11 academic year he taught composition at Keimyung University in Daegu, South Korea. In 2012, he was elected Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Composition, Conducting and Music Theory at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
