composer and writer; b. 13th October 1958 in Warsaw. He is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, where he studied composition with Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz and oboe. In 1986 he received 2 awards: at the Young Composers’ Competition for Wind Quintet and at the Grzegorz Fitelberg Composition Competition for A tre for large symphony orchestra. In 1988 his work 555 for saxophone ensemble was admitted to the final round of the 1st International Competition for Saxophone Quintet in Paris. In 1992-93, having been awarded a grant by the French Government, he studied at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. In 1992 he established Felix Victor publishing house.
In his compositions, Rafał Stradomski seeks new solutions for construction rather than new sound effects. In some works, he employs serialism or dodecaphonic technique, however his approach is not strict. He draws on the experience of aleatorism and uses elements of jazz, combining them with different composing techniques, which he has invented (often for the use of a single work).
In 1984-2001 he organized concerts at the Warsaw Music Society. He is also a preforming artist - he used to play early and contemporary music on oboe, now he plays piano.
As a writer he made his debut in 1995, having published a satiric story Sexual Life of Moomintrolls. He also wrote books: The View From a Room Without Windows, Russian Watch or Eternal Love, All President’s Girlfriends, Return of the President, The President’s Secret, The Deer’s Day and four theatre plays: The Lawn, The Godson, The Dolt and The Contrabassoonist.
Since 1986 he has been a member of the Polish Composers’ Union.Reed Trio (1981)
