conductor, b. 17th October 1982 in Pabianice. In 2007 he graduated conducting from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw with Prof. Antoni Wit and in the same year was the unanimous First Prize Winner of the Prague Spring International Conducting Competition. He works regularly with all the major Polish Orchestras, including Sinfonia Varsovia, the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra, and served as Assistant Conductor to the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra from 2007 - 2009.

Undoubtedly one of the most interesting conducting talents to emerge from Poland in recent years, Krzysztof Urbański has been attracting a considerable amount of attention throughout Europe where he is appreciated by orchestras, critics and audiences alike. Future highlights include return visits to NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Radio Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Residentie Orkest, Dresdner Philharmonie, Göteborgs Symfoniker, the Gulbenkian Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He will also make his debuts with the Swedish Radio and Danish National Symphony Orchestras, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de Espana, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Orchestre National de Belgique and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Further afield, following highly successful debuts with the Tokyo Symphony and Osaka Philharmonic Orchestras in autumn 2009, he has been invited to return to both in spring 2011.

Polish repertoire plays an important part in his programming: he will conduct the opening concert of the Polish focus at the 2010 Schleswig Holstein Festival with Sinfonia Varsovia, conducting Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Eva Kupiec and Górecki's Symphony No. 3. He will make his debut at the 2010 Grant Park Festival in Chicago with a programme including Lutoslawski's Concerto for Orchestra, and in addition will conduct Lutoslawski's Little Suite in his debut visit to the Indianapolis Symphony in spring 2010 (a first for the orchestra), and Penderecki's Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima with NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg in autumn 2010. He has also introduced Orawa and Krzesany by Wojciech Kilar to many orchestras.

From the start of the 2010/11 season, Krzysztof Urbański takes up the position of Chief Conductor of Trondheim Symfoniorkester having been appointed only a week after his highly successful debut with the orchestra in September 2009.

His hobby is composing. His Small Christmas Symphony received honourable mention in 2006 Grzegorz Fitelberg Competition for Composers.
