IRCAM and the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France invite composers born after January 1, 1990, to participate in the 2025 Élan Award International Composition Competition. The competition focuses on orchestral work. The application deadline is November 5, 2024, at 10:00 AM CEST.
Young composers selected to participate in the Élan Award will have the exceptional opportunity to attend workshops on orchestral composition and electronic music. These workshops will be led by musicians from the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France, IRCAM representatives, and guest artists as part of the ManiFeste 2025 festival academy. Finalists will also take part in rehearsals for the performance of their competition works.
The jury will be chaired by Lucia Ronchetti.
During the final concert, featuring the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France, the Élan Award ceremony will take place, with the prize funded by France Musique and Maison de la Musique Contemporaine. The Maison de la Musique Contemporaine will award the winner a prize of €3,000 gross. Additionally, the winning composition will be broadcast on France Musique during Anne Montaron's program *Création mondiale*, and the score will be published by Durand-Salabert-Eschig.
The winner will also receive a commission from IRCAM and the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France to compose a new piece for solo instrument, orchestra, and electronics, which will be premiered at the ManiFeste festival in 2026.
The winning composition will also be performed in other concerts by the orchestra during the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 seasons, promoting the young composer's work over the next few years.
Two additional prizes will be awarded: the Audience Award (funded by Durand-Salabert-Eschig) and the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France Award. Finalist composers will also receive recordings of their works for promotional purposes.
