The "ELEKTRAlicja" project, implemented thanks to funding from the "Polish Culture in the World" program of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, focuses on the presentation of contemporary Polish flute music in the USA. Flutist Alicja Molitorys was invited to participate in the New Music Festival in Omaha, organized on October 11-13, 2024 by Flute New Music Consortium.
Two pieces were composed especially for this occasion, showing the variety of contemporary techniques of combining flute with electronics. The festival will feature world premieres of the compositions ELEKTRAlicja by Piotr Grella-Mozejko for amplified flute and virtual tape and Wodnica (Vistula Water Spirit) by Mateusz Ryczek for flute and tape.
During the performance at the New Music Festival at the University of Nebraska in Omaha, Alicja Molitorys will also perform Dark Sky for alto flute and electronic media, a piece dedicated to her by the American composer Allison Ogden and premiered last year during the recital "Electrifying Flute" at the 9th "New Waves" Festival " in Gdańsk.
During her stay in the USA, Alicja Molitorys will also give master classes for flute students and a lecture for composition students at the University of Louisville on October 7-9. The planned solo concert in Louisville will be an opportunity to present Polish electroacoustic music, including works by Paweł Hendrich, Przemysław Scheller and Krzysztof Wołek, who has been teaching composition at the University of Louisville since 2008 and also heads the computer music studies at the university.
Alicja Molitorys is considered one of the leading Polish flutists in the field of contemporary music. He has performed over 100 world premieres. Her participation in the American festival and master classes is the next stage of her artistic career in the United States after previous successes, such as an artistic residency at the CAMPGround22 Festival in Florida and participation in the Ensemble Evolution program with the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) from New York.
