Gdynia | In memoriam

PChK

As part of the celebration of its 40th anniversary, the Polish Chamber Choir invites you to the concert "In memoriam" on the 8th anniversary of the plane crash in Smolensk, which will take place on 14 April 2018  at The Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Poland’s Church in Gdynia (46 Armii Krajowej St.).

During the concert, we will hear two sacred compositions: The Wawel Mass by Henryk Jan Bator, which the choir will perform a cappella, and Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, which will be accompanied by soloists, choir, organ and cello. The concert will be hosted by Professor Stanisław Krawczyński.

The Wawel Mass byHenryk Jan Botor, a Krakow composer and organist, completed in 2003, is a six-part a cappella work in the classical mass form, with Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. The composition was written in hommage to Saint Stanisław, hence probably the use of the motifs of the song Gaude Mater Polonia, returning from time to time in unusually colorful, full of noble dissonances harmony.

Maurice Duruflé's Requiem was published in 1948. This is a nine-part piece intended for two solo voices (soprano and baritone), cello, organ and choir. The stylistics of the work oscillate between post-impressionism and neoclassicism. The richness of consonances invites to meditation and establishes a contemplative atmosphere.

The concert is co-organized by the City of Gdynia and is under the patronage of the President of the City of Gdynia, Wojciech Szczurek. Admission is free.
