Katarzyna Forecka-Waśko’s book, Eurhythmics on Air: The History of Maria Wieman's Music Education Broadcasts, published in 2026 by the Adam Mickiewicz University Press, reveals a fascinating chapter in post-war music education for children and music created for them. The book is available both online in PDF format and for purchase as a printed edition.
The author explores the work of Maria Wieman, who, by applying Émile Jaques-Dalcroze’s eurhythmics method, created radio music education broadcasts—an innovative pedagogical tool of her time.
The book also highlights the educational mission of the Polish Radio and its culture-shaping role in developing a musical repertoire for the youngest listeners—a repertoire that remains a canon of children's songs to this day, including works by Lech Milaszewski, Jerzy Wasowski, Tadeusz Mayzner, Jan Maklakiewicz, Stanisław Ignacy Rączka, and Franciszka Leszczyńska.
The analysis of radio audio materials, scripts, songbooks, and recordings from the years 1948–1976 allows us to view these broadcasts as a vital element of the pedagogical practice of the time and a significant stage in the development of music education methodology in Poland.
The publication is addressed to education historians, musicologists, preschool educators, and students of pedagogy, as well as anyone interested in the history of Polish music education and its methodological foundations.
