Zygmunt Mycielski "Letters to Poles" (selection, introduction, and editing by Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska)
Letters to Poles by Zygmunt Mycielski is the fourth volume of writings by the composer published by the PAN Institute of Art, edited by the researcher of his life and work, Dr. Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska, Professor at the Institute of Art PAN.
Among the numerous texts by Zygmunt Mycielski, three cycles hold a special place, collected in the 2025 volume. These are: Letters from the West, Notes from Israel, and Letters from Poland. This time, the author chose the form of letters or reports addressed to his fellow countrymen. He recounted his first trip to France and Switzerland after the thaw (1957), a visit to Israel (1959), and shared his reflections on martial law (1981, 1983). These are not only memoirs of a well-known Polish composer and journalist but also an important historical document of the era, illustrating the intellectual and artistic life of the second half of the 20th century and the place of Polish culture in the world.
