Echoes of Folklore is the debut album by Nemesis Quartet, an ensemble formed by Polish saxophonists of the younger generation, who have been repeatedly recognized at international competitions. The repertoire of the album is filled with folk music-inspired works by six outstanding Polish composers - Witold Lutosławski, Karol Szymanowski, Zygmunt Noskowski, Ludomir Różycki, Fryderyk Chopin, Szymon Laks - in arrangements by members of the quartet: Wojciech Chałupka and Karol Mastalerz. The album was released on February 28, 2025 on streaming platforms: Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, NACOS, Soundcloud, Deezer, Napster. The publisher of the album is the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music and Société Générale.
Passionate musicians, open to exploring new forms of saxophone quartet expression, have developed compositions originally written for piano or string quartet, in which one can hear the fascination with the traditions of various regions of Poland - from the plains of Mazovia, through the highlands of Małopolska, to the mountainous areas of Podhale and the Tatra Mountains. In the arrangement for saxophone quartet, these works, thanks to the juxtaposition of musical tradition and modernity, have acquired fascinating color and expression.
This repertoire has been presented on the best Polish stages as part of the "Polish Music Scene" program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
