"Tales for bassoon and piano" is the latest album by bassoonist Dr. Mirosław Pachowicz and pianist Dr. Izabela Paszkiewicz-Ginter, released by Opus Series (111 | 2024). It features world premieres of works by Polish composers, created between 1950 and 2023.
The album includes compositions for bassoon and piano by Władysława Markiewiczówna, Władysław Walentynowicz, Adam Świerzyński, Zbigniew Kruczek, and Szymon Wieczorek. Z. Kruczek's "La Belle et la Bête" Suite and Sz. Wieczorek's "Abstrakcje II" were written specifically for the performers.
W. Walentynowicz's Humoreska, W. Markiewiczówna's Sonatina, and A. Świerzyński's Variations on the Kashubian Folk Melody 'Smętek' were also included in the album, not by chance – they are the result of both artistic exploration and the pedagogical work of the performers, who often use these works in their teaching practice and noticed a lack of professional recordings. These recordings serve as a guide and inspiration for young musicians, as well as an interesting proposition for listeners seeking lesser-known or unjustly forgotten works.
Mirosław Pachowicz and Izabela Paszkiewicz-Ginter have been performing as a duo for many years. Both are affiliated with the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, where they completed their studies and currently engage in pedagogical activities.
In 2024, both artists received the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Scholarship for Cultural Creators for this album.
