Łódź | ‘Percussion Art - History and Directions of Development': National Scientific and Artistic Conference

POLMICOn the 24th and 25th May 2022 the Percussion Department of the Academy of Music in Łódź organizes the National Scientific and Artistic Conference ‘Percussion Art - History and Directions of Development ’.

The papers will be presented by artists from music academies all over Poland. The inauguration of the conference is scheduled at 15.30 on the 24th of May. As part of the conference two evening concerts at 18.00 are also planned. On the 24th of May the Bacewicz Percussion Ensemble and the Gdańska Grupa Percussion Jeunesses Musicales joined together will present pieces composed in the second half of the 20th century. On the 25th of May young percussionists will perform compositions by Marta Ptaszyńska and Jakub Kołodziejczyk for sets of percussion instruments. The concerts will be hosted by Piotr Sutt - the artistic director of the event.
Admission to the conference is free. Tickets for the concerts at PLN 25 and PLN 15 can be purchased at the AM ticket office.

Jerzy Stankiewicz decorated with Gold Medal for services to the City of Toul

POLMICFrom the 29th of April to the 2nd of May 2022, the French-Polish Olivier Messiaen Festival was held in Toul, Lorraine, on the 30th anniversary of the composer's death. The initiator and organizer of this event is the musicologist Jerzy Stankiewicz. By preparing the event in Toul, in the place of the composer's imprisonment in the first prisoner of war camp (before transport to Görlitz), Stankiewicz wished to highlight its history, only fragmentarily mentioned in the composer's biography. During this undertaking, the mayor of the city, Alde Harman, decorated Jerzy Stankiewicz with the Gold Medal for services to the City of Toul. Moreover, Jerzy Stankiewicz was invited to the Honorary Committee of the Bach Organ Festival, which has been existing in Toul for over twenty years.

Gdańsk | Final Concert of the Composers' Competition ‘Duet with Harp'

POLMICThe Department of Composition and the Department of Organ, Harpsichord, Accordion, Guitar and Harp of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk invites you to the Final Concert of the Composers' Competition ‘Duet with Harp' which will take place on the 23rd of May 2022 at 6.00 p.m. in the Senate Hall in the red building of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.

The subject of the Competition for students of composition classes at Polish music academies was a 4-6 minute long piece for an instrumental duo with harp. 16 compositions were submitted to the Competition. The Competition Jury awarded 5 prizes and 1 honourable mention.

The winning compositions by Anna Stolarczyk, Piotr Kasiłowski, Szymon Kusior and Magdalena Białecka will be performed by students of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.

Poznań | Premiere of the Kacper Smoliński's Concerto

On the 22nd of May 2022 at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Agnieszka Duczmal will perform a premiere of a Concerto for chromatic harmonica, percussion and string orchestra by Kacper Smoliński. The soloists will be Bartek Miler and composer himself.

The creation of the composition was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the ‘Composing Commissions’ programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

Jacek Rabiński's Divertimento Amadeus, Emmanuel Séjourné's Concerto for vibraphone and string orchestra and the Dag Wirén's Serenade for strings, Op. 11 will also be performed at the concert.
The concert is organized on the occasion of the 85th birthday of the Programme 2 of the Polish Radio.

Łańcut | 61st Łańcut Music Festival

POLMICPatronat medialny nad Festiwalem objęło Polskie Centrum Informacji Muzycznej POLMIC.

From the 21st of May to the 5th of June 2022, the Music Festival in Łańcut will take place. On the 2nd of June, as part of the Festival, a concert will be held in the concert hall of the Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów with the participation of artists from Ukraine.

On the 21st of May at the Podkarpacka Philharmonic, there will be a concert with the participation of the Argentine singer, composer and conductor José Cura, accompanied by the Croatian-Slovenian soprano, Martin Zadro. David Giménez will conduct the Symphony Orchestra of the Podkarpacka Philharmonic. The orchestra will also perform at the end of the Festival on the 5th of June. The Portuguese composer and multi-instrumentalist Rodrigo Leão, who will present his original film music, will conduct the orchestra.

Sopot | 18th Edition of the Mundus Cantat International Choir Festival

POLMICBetween the 21st and 29th of May 2022 the 18th edition of the Mundus Cantat International Choir Festival Sopot 2022 will take place. 13 choirs from all over the world, including Angola and the Philippines will take part in his year's edition. The guest of the festival will be last year's winner of the Sopot Mewa Award - ASBeek Choir. Admission to all concerts is free.

For the first time after a pandemic break, foreign bands will come to Sopot again - it will be possible to hear them live, not in a virtual version, as it has been for the last 2 years. The competition will include choirs from Angola, the Philippines, Latvia, nd representatives of Poland from Łódź, Gniew, Wejherowo, Przodków, Gdańsk and Gdynia. The participants will be judged by an international jury chaired by Prof. Beata Wróblewska from the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.

Accompanying concerts will be held as part of the festival: the music of Polish composers will be heard in Sopot churches, in the open air and in the Social Welfare Center in Sopot. The programme will also include two colorful and spectacular events.

Sanok | 3rd International Organ and Chamber Music Festival

The 3rd International Festival of Organ and Chamber Music will be held between 17–22 May 2022 in Sanok. For six days music lovers will have the opportunity to take part in concerts in Sanok churches. The Festival will also include the International Courses of Organ and Chamber Music and the 2nd National Competition for Young Organists.

During this year's concerts, we will be able to hear works for organ with clarinet, cello or saxophone by composers from around the world, including world premiere of Mirosław Gąsieniec's Ave Maria and compositions by Piotr Rojek, Zdzisław Nowacki, Mieczysław Surzyński, Konstanty Gorski.

Those who will not be able to attend concerts in churches will be able to watch their live broadcasts online. Streaming will be provided by Ars Sonora from Łódź.

Warsaw | Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus: Mozart, Wieniawski, Skoryk and Haydn

POLMICOn the 21st of May 2022 at 7.00 p.m. in the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus conducted by Paweł Kos-Nowicki will perform Overtures to the operas Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn's Symphony ‘La poule’ No. 83, Melody by Myroslav Skoryk and Violin Concerto No. 2 by Henryk Wieniawski.

Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor has become one of the most popular violin piece in Poland and around the world. At the concert it will be performed by Agata Szymczewska, winner of the 13th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań in 2006. Szymczewska is also a winner of the Polityka Passport, four Fryderyk awards and the London Music Masters award. A leader of the renowned Karol Szymanowski Quartet.

Anna Sułkowska-Migoń, participant in the ‘Conductor-resident’ program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance and financed by the Minister of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, participated in the preparation of the concert.

Wrocław | „At first there was… noise“

During the concert of the Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra at the National Forum of Music on the 21st of May 2022 at 7.00 p.m. Gidon Kremer, a violinist of Latvian origin will perform.

The musicians will perform works by Astor Piazzolla and Mieczysław Weinberg. The evening will begin with compositions by Ukrainian artists - Victoria Polova and Mykola Łeontowycz. The second part of the concert is devoted to the project ‘At first there was… noise’, realized in collaboration with Robert Wick. Works of Mieczysław Weinberg - one of the most intriguing composers of the last century – were used by Gidon Kremer in the project.
