Warsaw | SuperSam +1: Stian Westerhus & Jerzy Przeździecki

SuperSamStian Westerhus and Jerzy Przeździecki will perform during the next concert from the series "SuperSam + 1", which will take place on November 15, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. in the Warsaw club DZiK (44A Belwederska St.).

"Supersam + 1" is a series of master performances. The project focuses mainly on music, however, it also includes other forms of expression such as: performance, multimedia, monodrama. “Supersam + 1” will present respected Polish and foreign artists whose work is original, experimental and innovative.

Stian Westerhus, born in 1979, has been pushing the boundaries with his guitar for the last ten years. Intimately playing the guitar, like a part of his own body, Stian’s expressive playing breaks down the barriers of the electric guitar and bends music, whether it is on his own as a solo performer or with others. He’s a player that can snuggle comfortably with the improv crowd and he can sound more like a machine than man. He webs sandblasted misshapes into a rhythmic weave, which is intricately bafing. His pursuit of new sound is more about fnding expressive possibilities than an end in itself: when he rips it in the upper register, his instrument sings, piercing through the murk like moonlight on the fens.

Jerzy Przeździecki is a Warsaw based electronic music producer and his journey started in 1983. He keeps away from clichés and amazes with sound. To him, music has no limits. He performed at the Warsaw Autumn Festival and at the biggest electronic music festivals. He balances on the junction of genres and has been developing his own musical language for many years. His creative process always begins with improvisation, which reveals the essence of the musical structure. He experiments and does not shy away from working with other artists. He played with Krzysztof Knittel, Jerzy Mazzoll or Andrzej Karałow. With the latter, he recently recorded an album for a Warsaw based label Requiem Records. He is the first Polish artist, whose piece was used by Depeche Mode in their worldwide tour. He is the second Polish artist, whose records were released by Sven Vath's legendary Cocoon Records label.

Warsaw | First ballet premiere at Teatr Wielki – National Opera

TW-ONOn November 17, 2018 at 7.00 p.m., the world premiere of the ballet evening in two parts Notre Chopin will take place at the Teatr Wielki – National Opera on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence.

"If the powerful, autocratic monarch from the north [the Moscow Tsar] knew what a dangerous enemy he had in Chopin’s works, in the simple melodies of his mazurkas, he would have his music banned. Chopin’s works are like cannons hidden among blossom," wrote Robert Schumann in 1836 in Neue Zeitschrift für Musik. Chopin was twenty years old when he left Warsaw at the beginning of November 1830, having given a ring to his beloved Konstancja. As he was saying farewell to his conservatory colleagues at the Wola toll house, he had no idea he was parting with Poland forever. The word of the Uprising reached him when he was already in Vienna. Longing and fear for what was happening with his family arrested his creative momentum for many months. However, a few years later the echo of his genius began to spread around the world.

Notre Chopin is a tribute to the Polish independence created by two acclaimed choreographers: Krzysztof Pastor and the Briton Liam Scarlett. The first part of the evening will feature Concerto in E minor choreographed by Liam Scarlett, and the second part will be filled with Concerto in F minor in choreography by Krzyszotf Pastor. The ballet will be performed by Polish National Ballet and Orchestra of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera.

Maciej Krawiec will host introductory talks with special guests 45 minutes before the curtain-up in the Main Foyer (for ticket holders only). Next performances will be held on November, 17, 18, 20, 21, 2018 and April 27, 28, 30, 2019.

100 for 100. Musical decades of freedom

100 na 100

The largest musical project of free Poland "100 for 100. Musical decades of freedom" is entering the decisive phase! PWM Edition, together with cultural institutions invited to cooperate in Poland and abroad, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of regaining Independence.

The project aims to present 100 works by Polish Composers—one work for each year of the last century—to a global audience. The list of masterpieces of Polish music literature written between 1918-2018 was made by the Program Council composed of authorities and representatives of cultural institutions. It includes the works of such composers as Karol Szymanowski, Witold Lutosławski, Andrzej Panufnik, Grażyna Bacewicz, Krzysztof Penderecki, Kazimierz Serocki, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Wojciech Kilar, Zygmunt Krauze, Eugeniusz Knapik, Paweł Mykietyn or Agata Zubel. The symbolic closing of the list, but also the new opening, will be the Fanfare "for Independence" for wind instruments, written especially for this occasion by Krzysztof Penderecki.

PWM in cooperation with outstanding artists and the best Polish orchestras, choirs and ensembles performed 60 new recordings of the works from the "100 for 100" list. The remaining recordings, carefully selected, come from, among others, the archives of Polish Radio and Polish Recordings. The project also assumes new releases of scores of the chamber and symphonic pieces from the "100 for 100" list.

The project will culminate on 11th November 2018 with 11 concerts in Poland and 11 concerts worldwide, some of them registered by radio and television. Polish music will be performed by ensembles specializing in contemporary music in the cities that have a special bond with our country: Chicago, Frankfurt am Main, Copenhagen, London, Lviv, Milan, Melbourne, New York, Paris, Tokyo, and Vienna.
