Stefan Kisielewski In Memoriam

Stefan Kisielewski in MemoriamPianist Maciej Grzybowski and Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra under Sławek Adam Wróblewski will perform a concert commemorating Stefan Kisielewski (105th anniversary of his birthday and 25th anniversary of his death) on March 13, 2016 at the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Krakow.

The programme features compositions by Kisielewski which he composed in various moments of his life - Concerto for Chamber Orchestra, Perpetuum mobile, Ballet Polka for symphony orchestra, Suite from the ballet "Fun Fair" and Piano Concerto (which was premiered at the "Warsaw Autumn" Festival in 1991), as well as his and Czesław Miłosz’s texts recited by actor Radosław Krzyżowski.

70th Anniversary of the Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic

70 Lat Filharmonii Warmińsko-Mazurskiej w OlsztynieWarmia and Mazury Philharmonic in Olsztyn celebrates its 70th anniversary. The anniversary concerts, held under the honorary patronage of the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, will take place between March 10 and 13, 2016.

The programme includes compositions by Fryderyk Chopin, Feliks Nowowiejski and young Polish artist Katarzyna Brochocka (whose work Constellatio Allenstenium, composed especially on this occasion, will be premiered on March 11 at the Special Gala) performed by laureates of the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition - Charles Richard-Hamelin and Kate Liu - with Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Piotr Sułkowski.

Wratislavia Cantans 2016 – ticket presale

Wratislavia CantansTickets for the 51st Andrzej Markowski International Wratislavia Cantans Festival went on presale on March 3, 2016. The event will be held under the title Europa Cantans on September 3-18, 2016.

2016 edition of Wratislavia Cantans will show the richness and variety of European music. The programme includes such masterpieces as both Passions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Coronation Mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, or Ludwig van Beethoven's and Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphonies. Several famous musical personalities will perform during the Festival, such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Jordi Savall, Andrey Boreyko, Philippe Jaroussky. This year the event offers new elements - master classes led by the great artists and addressed to young musicians, during which Paolo Pandolfo, Robert Levin, Andrea Inghisciano, and Giovanni Sollima will focus on improvisation, as well as concerts performed by students of music schools.

The presale will close on May 31.

Music of the Orient at the Academy of Music in Łódź

Abu Hassan Students of the Grażyna and Kiejstut Academy of Music in Łódź under the baton of Marcin Wolniewski will perform Carl Maria von Weber’s comic opera Abu Hassan on March 5, 2016. The work will be staged in Poland for the 1st time.

Abu Hassan is a German singspiel in one act, composed in 1811. The libretto, written by Franz Carl Hiemer, is based on a tale of the One Thousand and One Nights. The subject of this comic work concerns a debtor, Abu Hassan, and his wife Fatime, who make effort to fake their own death and outsmart the Caliph so that the money gained for their funerals would allow them to pay their debts and live in ease.

The opera will be examined in details during the conference OM: Orient in Music – Music of the Orient, which will take place on March 9-12, 2016 at the Academy of Music in Łódź.

Next performances will be held on March 6-9, 2016.

Festiwal Wyobraźni Muzycznej mYear 2016Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław and CENSA in Warsaw (Centre of Education for Teachers of Artistic Schools) organize the Musical Imagination Festival mYear, which will be held in March 18-20, 2016 in Wrocław.

The event is addressed to people interested in developing the skill of using ear training in practice, as well as gaining and broadening musical knowledge and imagination.

Passion Concert in Kamionek

Sinfonia VarsoviaSoprano Małgorzata Grzegorzewicz-Rodek and alto Wanda Franek with Sinfonia Varsovia under Wojciech Rodek will perform a Passion Concert on March 17, 2016 at the Co-Cathedral Church in Kamionek (365 Grochowska Street, Warsaw).

The artists will interpret Jasności promieniste (Radiant Lights - Little Mystery for Soprano solo and String Orchestra) by Mikołaj Górecki – a 4-part work commissioned by PWM Edition in 2012, which features fragments of Czesław Miłosz’s poetry – and Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, written in 1736.

String Quartet No. 3 by Paweł Mykietyn

Lutosławski QuartetLutosławski Quartet will premiere String Quartet No. 3 by Paweł Mykietyn on March 10, 2016 at the National Forum of Music in Wrocław.

The ensemble (formed in 2007), while performing mainly music of the 20th- and 21st-century composers, focuses on Polish repertoire and presents works by Witold Lutosławski, Karol Szymanowski, Grażyna Bacewicz, Paweł Mykietyn, Marcin Markowicz (member of the quartet).

Charles Richard-HamelinW ramach siódmego cyklu koncertów „Jeszcze polska muzyka” wraz z Orkiestrą Akademii Beethovenowskiej wystąpi wybitny kanadyjski pianista młodego pokolenia – Charles Richard-Hamelin, laureat II nagrody na XVII Międzynarodowym Konkursie Pianistycznym im. Fryderyka Chopina. Koncert odbędzie się 9 marca 2016 roku o godz. 19.00 w Sali im. Lucjana Lipińskiego Małopolskiego Centrum Kultury „Sokół”.

W programie tego wieczoru zabrzmią: Tańce polskie op. 4 nr 1-5 Juliusza Zarębskiego, Koncert fortepianowy f-moll op. 21 Fryderyka Chopina oraz VIII Symfonia F-dur op. 93 Ludwiga van Beethovena. Orkiestrę Akademii Beethowenowskiej poprowadzi Maciej Tworek.
