The Piano in Polish Collections

Fortepian w zbiorach polskichThe Institute of Music and Dance launches its new vortal www.piano.instruments.edu.pl. Devoted to historical pianos in Polish collections and containing unique photographs, recordings and descriptions of nearly 100 exhibits, the vortal is a subsidiary of www.instruments.edu.pl.

The vortal will be presented on 17 October 2015 (11 am) at the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Music Hall prior to the National Fryderyk Chopin Institute’s conference concluding the 3rd stage of the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition. The website will be launched to ennoble the Competition and commemorate the anniversary of Chopin’s death.

We know the names of the participants admitted to the 3rd round of the Chopin Competition

Konkurs Chopinowski 2015

On October12th, the second-round auditions of the 17th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition were completed. Over the course of 4 days, 43 pianists from 16 countries performed. According to the Competition rules and regulations, the jury – led by Prof. Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń – to the 3rd round admitted 20 participants from 12 countries, including: 3 from Poland, 3 from South Korea, 3 from United States, 2 from Russia, 2 from Canada, 1 from: Italy, Croatia, Ukraine, Japan, Czech Republic, Latvia and China. The auditions for the third round will begin on October 14th, 10 a.m. and will last until October 16th. The first pianist to perform will be Luigi Carroccia from Italy. The names of the Competition’s finalists will be announced on October 16th, late evening.

11th “Mózg Festival” - International Festival of Contemporary Music and Visual Arts

International Festival of Contemporary Music and Visual Arts „Mózg Festival” is an encounter of artists who work and create in all areas of contemporary music as well as performance art and multimedia installations where music plays an important part. Artists who participate in the festival come from all around the world. This reflects the multicultural principle of Mózg Festival and enables the audience to experience and understand different aspects of various cultures.

The festival presents the newest performance techniques and interdisciplinary combinations that relate to and honour tradition. This year the festival will last 13 days, will gather over 50 artists from 9 different countries and will take place in 2 cities: Bydgoszcz and Warsaw.

Paweł Gabara – the new General Director of the Grand Theater Łódź

The Grand Theater Łódź has its new General Director: Paweł Gabara, who in January 2015, after 17 years, left the position of General Director of Gliwicki Teatr Muzyczny (Gliwice Music Theatre).

Among his plans for the next 4 years are presentations of great works by Polish composers: Krzesany by Wojciech Kilar, Toison d'or [Golden Fleece] by Aleksander Tansman, Lamaila by Maciej Pawłowski, Ubu Rex by Krzysztof Penderecki and Król Roger King Roger] by Karol Szymanowski.

The nearest premiere in Grand Theatre Łódź will take place on November 21st. It will be Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart.
