The National Symphony Orchestra under Christoph Eschenbach will perform on February 19, 2016 at the Teatr Wielki-Polish National Opera.
The programme includes Adagio for strings from Symphony No. 3 by Krzysztof Penderecki, Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104 by Antonín Dvořák, and Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92 by Ludwig van Beethoven. German cellist Daniel Müller-Schott will be the soloist of the evening.
Wrocław-born Christoph Eschenbach began his career in 1951 by winning the 1st prize at the Steinway Young Pianist Competition. The artist studied piano in Cologne and pursued further studies in Hamburg, where he also studied conducting. His mentors included George Szell and Herbert von Karajan. He was chief conductor of the NDR Symphony Orchestra (1998-2004) and artistic director of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival (1999-2003). Over the last 6 seasons, he has been music director of both the National Symphony Orchestra and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
The National Symphony Orchestra is one of the most highly acclaimed U.S. symphony orchestras. While maintaining a high artistic level, the orchestra gives more than 150 classical and popular concerts a year, appearing during important state and international events. It was founded in 1931 and became the artistic affiliate of the Kennedy Center in 1986.
