Winners of the Fryderyk Award 2016

Fryderyki 2016 On April 21, 2016 the names of the Fryderyk award winners were announced at a special gala held in the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw.

The awards were granted in 8 categories:

• Best Album - Opera, Choral and Oratorio Music: Musica Caelestis (DVD) - "Musica Sacra" Warsaw-Praga Cathedral Choir with Joanna Łukaszewska, Anna Krawczykiewicz, Konrad Tanewski, Małgorzata Kołcz, Łukasz Farcinkiewicz and Michał Markuszewski under Paweł Łukaszewski;

• Best Album - Early Music: Verbum Incarnatum - Paweł Gusnar (saxophone) and Mulierum Schola Gregoriana Clamaverunt Iusti under Michał Sławecki;

• Best Album - Chamber Music: A Polish Kaleidoscope (Dobrzyński, Moszkowski, Zarębski, Palester) - Ravel Piano Duo: Agnieszka Kozło and Katarzyna Ewa Sokołowska;

• Best Album - Solo Recital: Chopin, Szymanowski, Mykietyn - Szymon Nehring (piano);

• Best Album - Orchestral Music: Warsaw Philharmonic: the 1st Concert in the Rebuilt Hall - Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra (1955) and Wanda Wiłkomirska (violin) under Witold Rowicki;

• Best Album - Contemporary Music: Paweł Łukaszewski: Symphony of Providence (DVD) - Anna Mikołajczyk-Niewiedział, Agnieszka Rehlis, Jarosław Bręk, Polish Radio Choir in Krakow, Podlasie Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir under Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski;

• Best Foreign Album: Lutosławski: Piano Concerto, Symphony No. 2 - Krystian Zimerman and Berliner Philharmoniker under Simon Rattle;

• Best Polish Music Recording: Lutosławski: Piano Concerto, Symphony No. 2 - Krystian Zimerman and Berliner Philharmoniker under Simon Rattle.

Bass-baritone Bernard Ładysz received an honorary award. The gala concert was performed by Polish Radio Orchestra under the baton of Krzesimir Dębski, Meccore String Quartet and Szymon Nehring.
