6th International Music Festival Energa Sopot Classic, held in August 3-8, 2016, offers concerts of different music genres, often presented both in Poland and abroad. The event was initiated by the City of Sopot and the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot.
In accordance to well-established tradition, the opening concert will take place in the Forest Opera. The star of the evening will be Aleksandra Kurzak - one of the most prominent Polish sopranos who regularly performs in the greatest opera houses all around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera House New York, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and Wiener Staatsoper. Accompanied by the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot under the baton of Wojciech Rajski, she will perform arias from operas by Donizetti, Puccini and Bizet. Staying faithful to the heterogeneous identity of the festival, August 5 will introduce quite different atmosphere during the film music concert, which will feature pieces from the Hollywood productions. Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, an outstanding Oscar-winning Polish composer known for Finding Neverland, will be the evening’s special guest. Fans of more classical repertoire will undoubtedly be attracted to the concert of Baroque music performed by musicians of La Stagione Frankfurt on August 6 at St. George’s Church in Sopot. The festival will be concluded with an open-air concert entitled Vivaldi contra Piazzolla, which will be held August 8 at the beach nearby the Sopot’s Theatre.
