Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Nabucco will be broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera on January 7, 2017 at Kino Praha in Warsaw.
Verdi’s third opera had its world premiere in 1842 at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. The success of the drama about the fall of ancient Jerusalem at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar (Nabucco) established the composer’s reputation worldwide. The work’s librettist Temistocle Solera based the text on biblical stories. In this New York production, the legendary Placido Domingo brings another baritone role under the baton of James Levine.
The Metropolitan Opera’s 2016-17 season, the 50th anniversary of its home at Lincoln Center, features 225 opera performances of 26 operas in a varied repertory that ranges from 18th-century masterpieces to some of the most acclaimed operas in recent years. The Met: Live in HD series, which transmits Met performances to more than 2,000 movie theaters in 70 countries around the world, continues for its 11th season and includes the broadcast of 10 performances from the season.
