Penderecki wins Grammy

pKrzysztof Penderecki and the Warsaw Philharmonic won the Grammy award for the Best Choral Performance with the album Penderecki conducts Penderecki (vol. 1). This year’s Grammy winners were announced on February 13, 2017.

Album Penderecki conducts Penderecki - the first studio recording of the composer with the Warsaw Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra - was released by Warner Music Poland and features such compositions as Dies Illa, Psalms of David, Hymn to St. Daniil and Hymn to St. Adalbert. The solo parts were interpreted by Johanna Rusanen (soprano), Agnieszka Rehlis (mezzosoprano) and Nikolay Didenko (bass).

This is Penderecki's fifth Grammy as he had previously received the award in 1988 (Best Contemporary Composition for Cello Concerto No. 2 with Mstislav Rostropovich), 1999 (Best Classical Contemporary Composition and Best Instrumental Soloist Performance for Violin Concerto No. 2 "Metamorphosen" with Anne-Sophie Mutter and the London Symphony Orchestra), 2001 (Helmut Rilling’s performance of Credo) and 2013 (works Fonogrammi, Horn Concerto, Partita, The Awakening of Jacob and Anaklasis recorded by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra under Antoni Wit).
