f Pomerianian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under Modestas Pitrėnas will perform Symphony No. 4, Op. 60 by Karol Szymanowski on February 24, 2017.

The programme includes also Iceberg Symphony by Lituanian composer Raminta Šerkšnytė (*1975) and Symphony in D minor by César Franck. The solo part in Szymanowski’s masterpiece will be interpreted by Petras Geniušas. Born into a musical family in Vilnius, the pianist graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music under Jurgis Karnavičius and continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory under Vera Gornostayeva. A series of highest awards at the prestigious piano competitions (including the 2nd prize at Pilar Bayona Piano Competition in Zaragoza in 1989, 1st prize at the Y.C.A.A. International Piano Competition in Oberlin in 1991 and 1st prize at the Palm Beach Invitational International Piano Competition in 1992) confirmed his reputation as one of the most accomplished pianists of his generation. In addition to regular engagements in Lithuania, Petras Geniušas has toured over forty countries around the world, and performed at the world’s major concert venues including the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Great Hall, New York Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, Tokyo Geijitsu Geikijo, and Vienna’s Musikverein. He recorded several critically acclaimed CDs for different labels in Germany, Japan and Lithuania. In recognition of his wide-ranging concert activities and artistic accomplishments, he became the recipient of the Lithuanian National Award (1992) and WIPO Creativity Award (2004). In 2015, he was awarded the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas.
