"Stars with Sinfonietta": David Grimal and Sinfonietta Cracovia

scViolinist David Grimal and Sinfonietta Cracovia will perform the next concert of the "Stars with Sinfonietta" cycle, which will be held on March 7, 2017 at the Krakow Philharmonic.

As much as the “play and lead” method, ie. a concert formula in which a soloist leads the performance from his/her seat, might seem unconventional and experimental, it goes way back to Baroque ensembles, which used to be conducted by the concertmaster or the main continuo player (harpsichordist). Sinfonietta Cracovia, joined by David Grimal, will present both early and 20-century music - Violin Concerto in A minor, BWV 1041 by Johann Sebastian Bach, Divertimento for Strings by Grażyna Bacewicz, Divertimento for String Orchestra by Béla Bartók and Violin Concerto "Distant Light" by Pēteris Vasks (Polish premiere).

David Grimal is a French violinist who studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Paris under the supervision of Régis Pasquier, at which time he received advice and encouragement from such artists as Schlomo Mintz and Isaac Stern. While pursuing an international career as a solo violinist, he has performed regularly over the past twenty years in the world’s leading classical music venues and with prestigious orchestras. The artist plays the Stradivarius ("ex Roederer" from 1710) as well as the "Don Quixote" - a violin made for him by the French luthier, Jacques Fustier.
