21st Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival

b2017 edition of the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival will be held under the title Beethoven and Fine Arts between April 2 and 14.

The line-up includes concerts in Warsaw, Gdańsk, Katowice, Krakow, Lublin, Radom, Szczecin and Zabrze with the participation of the Choir and Orchestra of the Warsaw Philharmonic, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic Orchestra as well as foreign artists such as Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken, State Youth Orchestra of Armenia and others. The listeners will be presented with a concert performance of Igor Stravinsky’s opera The Rake’s Progress, The Girl from Navarre by Jules Massenet, Djamileh by Georgres Bizet, music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler, and Polish composers (Karol Szymanowski, Mieczysław Karłowicz, Feliks Nowowiejski, Andrzej Panufnik).

Apart from numerous concerts, the Festival offers several fringe events, such as lectures (Gabriella Ravenni/University of Piza, Virgilia Barnardoni/University of Bergamo), master classes, exhibition of music manuscripts and the 21st International Symposium (April 3-4), which will be attended by the members of the Polish Composers’ Union: Mieczysław Tomaszewski, Teresa Malecka, Marcin Trzęsiok, Krzysztof Bilica and Ewa Siemdaj, as well as foreign guests - William Kinderman, Joan Grimalt, Christine Seigest, Siglind Bruhn from the University of Michigan who will give a presentation on Marta Ptaszyńska’s Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra of 1985: an ekphrastic triptych and others.
