The winners of the Polish Music Coryphaeus 2017

The winners of the Polish Music Coryphaeus awards for 2017 have been announced. The ceremony took place during a gala concert held at the Witold Lutosławski Polish Radio Concert Studio in Warsaw on 1 October 2017. 

The winners were awarded in the following categories:
Debut of the Year: Marianna Żołnacz
Personality of the Year: Szymon Nehring
Event of the Year: Grammy Award for the record Penderecki conducts Penderecki vol. 1
Honorary Award: Jerzy Maksymiuk

The winners, selected by a panel representing the Polish music community, were handed statuettes designed by Prof Adam Myjak. The Personality of the Year Award and the Honorary Award came with financial awards funded by the Związek Artystów Wykonawców (Union of Performing Artists) STOART and the Stowarzyszenie Autorów (Society of Authors) ZAiKS respectively.

The gala concert Róbmy swoje (Just Do Your Job) was named in honour of the brilliant talent of Wojciech Młynarski (whose famous song bears the same title) and featured guitarists Marek Napiórkowski and Artur Lesicki, pianist Piotr Latoszyński, flutist Leszek ‘Hefi’ Wiśniowski and a jazz band made up of vibraphonist Dominik Bukowski, pianist Krzysztof Herdzin, contrabassist Michał Barański, and percussionists Paweł Dobrowolski and Sebastian Frankiewicz. All the performers had the back-up of the Polska Orkiestra Radiowa (Polish Radio Orchestra) directed by Krzysztof Herdzin and Maciej Koczur.

The programme of the concert comprised compositions written by Wojciech Kilar, Krzysztof Komeda, Bogusław Schaeffer, Krzysztof Herdzin, Marek Napiórkowski, as well as a premiere performance of the Piano Concerto by Zygmunt Konieczny commissioned by the Fundacja Muzyki Filmowej i Jazzowej (Film and Jazz Music Foundation) financially supported by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, part of the ‘Composing Commissions’ programme managed by the Institute of Music and Dance. The gala was hosted by Agata Kwiecińska and Marcin Majchrowski. The event was organised by the Institute of Music and Dance, Polish Radio 2 and the Film and Jazz Music Foundation.
