Rzeszów | 27th Festival of Organ and Chamber Music Evenings in the Cathedral and Churches of Rzeszow

Rzeszów Festiwal Organowy

For the last 27 years organ and chamber music could be heard in Rzeszów temples in summer. This year's festival "Evenings of Organ and Chamber Music in the Cathedral and Churches of Rzeszów" will begin on July 1 and will last until August 19, 2018.

8 festival concerts will take place in Rzeszów: in the cathedral, in the Church of the Holy Cross and the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zalesie. During this year's festival, renowned organ virtuosos and other instrumentalists and singers from Germany, Italy, Russia, the USA and of course from Poland will perform. The Rzeszów program will be accompanied by two cycles: "Organ music in Jarosław Abbey" and "Organ concerts in the Jesuit Basilica in Stara Wieś".

As in previous years, music lovers will be able to listen to a large portion of organ and chamber music from different cultural areas of Europe. The historical and geographical panorama of the music featured in the programme of each concert is extensive: from the works of the Polish renaissance, early Spanish and Italian music, through mature polyphony of Johann Sebastian Bach, works by German romantics and French symphonists to contemporary compositions, and even organ improvisation.

Each of the concerts will be interesting and different in terms of the proposed repertoire as well as a variety of performance cast. There will be a lot of Polish music during the inaugural concert at the Rzeszów cathedral on Sunday, July 8th, as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Poland's Independence.

The main organizer of this year's edition of the festival is, for the first time, the ARS PRO ARTE Culture and Art Promotion Foundation, established to organize organ music festivals in Podkarpacie and Małopolska.
