Łódź | "Pianos of Freedom"

Soundedit

"Pianos of Freedom" – an event accompanying the 10th edition of the Soundedit Festival – will have its premiere on September 1, 2018. At 4:00 p.m. in the Józewski passage near the Reymont's Trunk statue (Piotrkowska 137) Maciej Tubis will play compositions by Aleksander Tansman. The second part of the project will take place a day later in the same place, at the same time. Adam Kośmieja will perform works of Kazimierz Serocki.

This unique project covers ten musical events organized on the occasion of the centenary of independence. Ten great pianists, ten outstanding composers and exactly ten occasions to listen to the best Polish piano music of the last century in public space in Łódź. "Pianos of Freedom" is something more than public concerts with the participation of keyboard masters: Rozalia Kręc, Władysław Komendarek, Zygmunt Krauze and Szábolcs Esztényi. The main idea of the "Pianos of Freedom" project is the discovery of unusual pages of the history of Polish state through artistic travel in time and the involvement of a wide audience in a joint celebration of independence. The compositions presented in the framework of the event, originating from the Polish tradition, are a source of pride and inspiration for further activities, not only in the artistic sphere.

We will therefore hear Szymanowski's mazurkas, an attempt to reconcile the national tradition with the modernist aspirations of the reborn Poland. We will get to know the multidimensional personality of the famous Łódź-based Aleksander Tansman, in which the Jewish diaspora's inspiration is mixed with the fascination of American jazz. The clarity and lightness of Lutosławski's early music will miraculously complement the wild expression of Serocki's works, and Krauze's ludic sound experiments – with Sikorski's dark minimalism. In Katarina Głowicka's music, the classical piano will meet with post-electronics, and Władysław Komendarek – the legend of electronic music, will play their own compositions, stripped of clever technology.
