Kraków | Maestro Penderecki's Birthday

FK

On the threshold of the new artistic season, Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Krakow starts a series of events to celebrate the 85th birthday anniversay of its former Artistic Director – Krzysztof Penderecki. Composer's famous Credo will be performed on September 15th, 2018 at 7.30 p.m. in the St. Cathrine's Church.

In July this year, 20 years have passed since the work was performed for the first time. Latin text Credo was completed with a series of quotes from the liturgy of Holy Week and Polish Lent songs, such as Ludu mój ludu or Któryś za nas cierpiał rany. The monumental work also contains a quote from the Protestant psalm Aus tiefer Not, which is the German version of the psalm De profundis. Due to the selection of text materials, the work acquires an ecumenical message. The confession of faith unites the church of the East and the West, appealing to God above various forms of celebration of its existence.

During the concert, the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra, Mixed Choir and Boys’ Choir will perform under the baton of the composer. As solists we will hear: Iwona Hossa – soprano I, Karolina Sikora – soprano II, Małgorzata Pańko-Edery – alto, Adam Zdunikowski – tenor, Piotr Nowacki – bass. The concert will be repeated on September 20th in the Church of Our Lady of the Snows in Ołomuniec, within the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
