The winners of the 12th Michał Spisak International Music Competition

The competition began on September 14, the day of Michał Spisak's birthday. This year, among the participants were contrabassists, hornists and bassooners. We already know the winners!

In the first two stages, the musicians presented their skills in a chamber repertoire from baroque to contemporary music. In the third stage, the finalists had to face a bigger form, performing with the Symphony Orchestra of the Zabrze Philharmonic under the baton of Sławomir Chrzanowski. Depending on the specialty, they performed works by: M. Spisak, J. N. Hummel, R. Glier, G. Bottesini and R. Strauss.

International Jury chaired by prof. Wiesława Grochowski decided to award the following prizes: Double bass: 1st Prizes were not awarded, 2nd Prize – Marcin Bobak, 3rd Prize – Wiktoria Czyżewska and Jędrzej Kacprzyk; distinction – Mio Tamayama (Japan) and Klaudia Baca. Bassoon: 1st Prize – Szymon Michalik, 2nd Prize – Giovanni Epasto (Italy), 3rd Prize – Marcin Orliński and Grzegorz Popławski. Horn: 1st Prize – Paweł Cal, 2nd Prize – Ludmila Kubičková (Czech Republic), 3rd Prize – Monika Całus, distinction – Sytske Pas (Norway). The award of the Zabrze Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra was given to double bass player Jędrzej Kacprzyk.

Cash prizes and statuettes designed by Marek Grabowski were presented on September 23 at the Zagłębie Palace of Culture in Dąbrowa Górnicza, during the Laureates' Concert with the participation of the Zabrze Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
