100 for 100. Musical decades of freedom

100 na 100

The largest musical project of free Poland "100 for 100. Musical decades of freedom" is entering the decisive phase! PWM Edition, together with cultural institutions invited to cooperate in Poland and abroad, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of regaining Independence.

The project aims to present 100 works by Polish Composers—one work for each year of the last century—to a global audience. The list of masterpieces of Polish music literature written between 1918-2018 was made by the Program Council composed of authorities and representatives of cultural institutions. It includes the works of such composers as Karol Szymanowski, Witold Lutosławski, Andrzej Panufnik, Grażyna Bacewicz, Krzysztof Penderecki, Kazimierz Serocki, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Wojciech Kilar, Zygmunt Krauze, Eugeniusz Knapik, Paweł Mykietyn or Agata Zubel. The symbolic closing of the list, but also the new opening, will be the Fanfare "for Independence" for wind instruments, written especially for this occasion by Krzysztof Penderecki.

PWM in cooperation with outstanding artists and the best Polish orchestras, choirs and ensembles performed 60 new recordings of the works from the "100 for 100" list. The remaining recordings, carefully selected, come from, among others, the archives of Polish Radio and Polish Recordings. The project also assumes new releases of scores of the chamber and symphonic pieces from the "100 for 100" list.

The project will culminate on 11th November 2018 with 11 concerts in Poland and 11 concerts worldwide, some of them registered by radio and television. Polish music will be performed by ensembles specializing in contemporary music in the cities that have a special bond with our country: Chicago, Frankfurt am Main, Copenhagen, London, Lviv, Milan, Melbourne, New York, Paris, Tokyo, and Vienna.
