Warsaw | Sinfonia Varsovia Chamber Music – Within Reach

SV

Next event of the second edition of the cycle "Sinfonia Varsovia Chamber Music" will take place on April 14, 2019 at 5.00 p.m. in the Wilanów Cultural Centre in Warsaw (3 Kolegiacka St.).

“Within Reach” is the motto for "Sinfonia Varsovia Chamber Music" concerts taking place in various locations around Warsaw. This is a unique opportunity to listen to the Orchestra’s musicians playing chamber music without having to travel to distant locations in the city. This year, the theme of the cycle is “From Duet to Octet”, with opportunities to listen to performances featuring from two to eight instruments. Before performance, every work will be discussed by a host and by the musicians themselves, who will invite the audience to join the discussion.

The April concert will feature flutist Andrzej Krzyżanowski, oboist Arkadiusz Krupa, clarinettist Radosław Soroka, trumpeter Henryk Kowalewicz, and bassoonist Piotr Kamiński. The programme will include rarely performed music for the quintet of wind instruments by Ferenc Farkas, György Ligeti and Malcolm Arnold. It will be complemented by Grażyna Bacewicz's Quintet for Wind Instruments, which was written during the postgraduate compositional studies at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris under the supervision of prof. Nadia Boulanger. Bacewiczówna received for this work the first prize at the competition for composers organised by the Paris Society "Aide aux femmes de professions libres".

All presented compositions will be discussed by Dr. Mariusz Gradowski, lecturer at the Institute of Musicology at the University of Warsaw. Admission to all concerts in the "Sinfonia Varsovia Chamber Music" series is free!
