Warsaw | BASSO 3. International Biennale of Low Sounds

Basso

The 3rd International Biennale of Low Sounds BASSO will be held in Warsaw on June 2–30, 2019.

The idea of the Biennale is to go beyond the framework of a festival of classical music. The core of the programme is music for bass instruments, particularly string instruments like cello or viola da gamba, electronic instruments (bass guitar, synthesizers), historical instruments (saz), and also human voice. The name BASSO refers to basso continuo, a partly improvised form of musical accompaniment popular in the Baroque period.

The festival will be inaugurated by the AUKSO orchestra under Marek Moś and bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny who will perform works by Stanisław Moniuszko and Tadeusz Baird. The AUKSO orcehstra will also take part in the concert "Dominik Połoński in Memoriam" on June 20, along with vocalist Iza Połońska and cellists Ewa Kędzielska and Tomasz Strahl. The programme will include composistions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Jerzy Wasowki. The last musical event will feature Cezary Duchnowski's improvisations. The concerts will take place in three different venues: Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio, Fryderyk Chopin University of Music and Edward Detkens Church in Bielany Forest. The festival will also include master classes, lectures, film screening, and events for children.
