Bydgoszcz | 20th anniversary of Pope Jean Paul II's visit to Bydgoszcz

A concert on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the visit of John Paul II in Bydgoszcz will take place on 7 June 2019 at 7pm at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic.

The Pope visited Kujawy and Pomerania twice: in 1991, when he was in Włocławek (6 and 7 June), and in 1999 – when he visited Toruń and Bydgoszcz (7 June). The programme of the concert to commemorate the latter event will be composed of works by eminent Polish composers.

The evening will start with Wojciech Kilar's Vocalise from The ninth gate, famous thriller by Roman Polański. Then, we will listen to Henryk Wieniawski's Second Concerto in D minor, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki's Three Dances Op. 35 for orchestra, and Wojciech Kilar's Exodus. The Symphony Orchestra of the Pomeranian Philharmonic, Chamber Choir "Akolada" from Bydgoszcz, Chamber Choir of the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, and Choir of the Ludwik Rydygier Collegium Medicum UMK in Toruń will be led by Marek Pijarowski.
