First performances, youthful compositions and interpretations, the canon of 20th-century music, lecture and film projection – these are the elements of the programme of the 75th "Musica Moderna" session at the Academy of Music in Łódź (29 November – 5 December 2019). Traditionally, the concerts will feature present students of the Academy – composers and instrumentalists. The event's partner is the Polish Composers' Union.
The inaugural concert of the 75th "Musica Moderna" session will take place on 29 November at 7 p.m., presenting works by 1st and 2nd prize winners of the 6th Grażyna Bacewicz International Composers' Competition: The Landscape for orchestra by Satoshi Ohmae (Japan), and Earthise by Nicholas Gotch (Great Britain). The Artur Rubinstein Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra will be led by Paweł Przytocki.
The guests of this year's session will be: pianist Martyna Zakrzewska (Kraków), Symphony Orchestra of the Music Academy in Gdańsk under the baton of Maciej Tomasiewicz and Prof. Gordon Williamson (Hannover). Martyna Zakrzewska's recital entitled "Still piano?" is a compilation of works in which the pianist plays the piano, but also sings, whistles, whispers, screams, hits or knocks, plays percussion instruments, constructs new instruments, cuts aluminum foil into small scraps ... The pianist will present, among others compositions by Michał Lazar and Piotr Peszat. Composer Gordon Williamson (Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hanover) will present and discuss the work Encounters for two Inuit throat singers, accordion and the ensemble Neue Vocalsolisten. The composition is the result of his research on the Inuit community – the indigenous people of northern Canada. In addition, his composition breathing room will be presented during the 'Young Composers. Young performers" concert. The session will end with a concert presenting stylisticly diverse compositions by Polish authors.
