Warsaw | James Carter at the Sinfonia Varsovia's Birthday Concert

SV

James Carter, considered to be one of the greatest jazz saxophonists in the world, a protégée of legendary Lester Bowie, will perform at the Sinfonia Varsovia's Birthday Concert on 15 March 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at the Grand Theater – National Opera. The musicians under the Serbian conductor Aleksandar Marković will present the Polish premiere of Robert Sierra's Concert for saxophones and orchestra.

Robert Sierra's Concert for saxophones and orchestra (2002), combining jazz with classical and Latin music, will highlight the orchestra's long-standing cooperation with the jazz environment. The orchestra first met jazzman James Carter in 2009, when they recorded Sierra's Concerto at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw. The result of the collaboration of Sinfonia Varsovia and the American saxophone virtuoso was the Caribbean Rhapsody album, entirely filled with music by the composer from Puerto Rico. Released in 2011 by the prestigious Universal Music Group, it aroused the enthusiasm of foreign and native music critics.

The programme of the Sinfonia Varsovia's Birthday Concert will also include Krzysztof Penderecki's The Awakening of Jacob, which appeared in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, and the Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64 by Piotr Tchaikovsky.
