Szczecin | Polish Music

Atma QuartetThe current season of the Szczecin Philharmonic is marked by music for string quartet, so the Independence Day is a great opportunity to present Polish chamber works. On 11 November 2020 at 7.00 p.m. Ãtma Quartet will perform pieces by Stanisław Moniuszko, Krzysztof Penderecki, Andrzej Panufnik and Karol Szymanowski.

Ãtma Quartet, considered one of the most interesting string quartets of the young generation, was founded in 2016 and since the beginning has been conducting intensive concert activity, popularizing chamber music in the country and the world. The works of Polish composers occupy a special place in their repertoire.

The November concert will be opened by Stanisław Moniuszko's Quartet No. 1 in D minor, dedicated to Józef Elsner, one of the first composers in Poland to weave elements of folk music into his works. Thanks to the "Young Poland" scholarship programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Ãtma Quartet recorded an album with works by Polish composers Penderecki, Szymanowski, Panufnik – String Quartets (CD Accord, 2019). During the concert we will hear Penderecki's String Quartet No. 3 "Pages of an Unwritten Diary", Panufnik's String Quartet No. 3 "Paper-cuts" and Szymanowski's String Quartet No. 2.

Online broadcast will be available on Facebook and YouTube of the Szczecin Philharmonic.
