Atom String Quartet & Szczecin Philharmonic Wind Quartet: Karłowicz

Karlowicz

Among the works of Mieczysław Karłowicz – a pioneer of the Young Poland movement in music – it is the songs that have retained the strongest resonance. The Atom String Quartet & Szczecin Philharmonic Wind Quartet will present their interpretation of the composer's work on 5 February 2021 at 7.00 p.m.

Karłowicz composed songs during his studies. He decided to give them a new dimension – as he wrote in his letters: "Maybe music cannot rise higher than poetry, but it can certainly fly elsewhere, in a different direction." He especially appreciated poems by Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer. Their spiritual kinship was based on similar experience of love and longing for the world that has already passed or has not yet come into existence.

In 2020 the Philharmonic in Szczecin once again reached for Karłowicz's work. The album Mieczysław Karłowicz – Songs, performed by Małgorzata Walewska and the musicians of the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Rune Bergmann, was released on 30 October. Piotr Moss is the author of the wonderful orchestrations on the album. During the upcoming concert, the Philharmonic will present yet another version  a jazz interpretation of the songs prepared by the well-known Atom String Quartet.

The online premiere will be held on the Philharmonic's YouTube channel and Facebook page.
