LEM – Futurology in Music

FuturologiaThe Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków invites you on 13 May 2021 for the "LEM – Futurology in Music" – an event on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of one of the most important Polish writers, Stanisław Lem.

In 2021 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the last – as they say – futurologist, visionary and eccentric, intellectual and bold prophet, who looks into the future, always ahead, with a dose of cultural pessimism. Does Lem's scientific future prediction in the artistic visions of what is to come still makes sense? Such important issues will be addressed in the musical-theoretical reflection, debate and a concert of space music.

Among the scheduled sessions are "Lem – Contexts" and "Lem in Opera" (with analysis of Karol Nepelski's Solaris and Krzysztof Meyer's The Cyberiad). Maria Wilczek-Krupa will give a lecture entitled 'Opowieść pierwszego Odmrożeńca', Stanisław Lem's musical-literary parable of the socialist system. The programme of the concert – installation – performance in the "Reading Lem / Hearing the Cosmos" series at 6.00 p.m. will feature works by Leonard Rizzo, Tomasz Gil, Paweł Malinowski, Monika Szpyrka, Teoniki Rożynek, Artur Kryvych, Estera Wityńska, Oktawia Pączkowska, Karol Nepelski, Olga Demeter and Maurycy Grabowski..
